five minute rule

The lady on the Honda ordered sweet and sour pork to go. The cook dropped a piece of cooked pork, which lay on the ground for a few minutes. The owner subtly picked up the meat and lay it on top of the evening’s lettuce. That piece went first into the to-go bag, followed by most of the rest of the pork. A couple pieces saved to offer with rice to the gods – better not the one that fell on the ground!

Ha! I’m surprised that a rat didn’t get to it first. Those rats must be slowing down!

Nothing like such a story to make me never want to eat out again….or stick to places where I can watch them make my food? ;) ))!!
Now having said that, if you drop anything on my spotless kitchen floor, as my husband said, it actually gets cleaner ;) )!!

I remember ages ago reading in a New Yorker article about the practice in fancy restaurants of, when a steak fell on the ground, setting it aside as “save for well.” Because anyone who would order a steak well done deserves to get the floor steak. As an eater of practically raw meat, of course that made me snicker.
