two caterpillars

Zoe emerged from her room this morning with her stuffed caterpillar in one hand and The Very Hungry Caterpillar in the other. Lately, she’s been matching up objects, especially with pictures in her books. My coffee mug has a picture of a helicopter, and when Zoe saw it she grabbed a particular book and flipped through the pages until she found the helicopter.

funny face

Zoe discovers what fun can be had with the screen door.

Boof!

zoe in the box

We found Zoe a wonderful cadeau de la rue today – a wooden activity box with a maze, abacus, xylophone, and magnetic whiteboard on each of the four sides. Just like her father, all of Zoe’s best toys come from the dump. More photos on Facebook.

really walking

Zoe took a few days off after taking her first steps, but now she’s really going.

zoe & bear

We braved the crowds to visit Ocean Park during the Chinese New Year holidays. The queues were too long to visit most of the popular attractions, but we made sure to visit the pandas, having never seen real ones before. Zoe really bonded with the pandas and didn’t want to leave the enclosure.

chopsticks too

Not one to rest on her laurels with the walking thing, Zoe also started eating her noodles with chopsticks tonight.

four steps

Zoe took her first four steps tonight, just before bed. She’d had about enough of walking by the time I got the camera out, though.

in the garden

We are back home in Hong Kong! Trinh and Zoe have been spending a lot of time in the garden, working on the winter crop. Tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, pak choi and spinach are all ready to be eaten.

saigon zoo

Our first outing was to the Saigon Zoo. All was well until the elephant sneezed.

The elephant remained upright, but gave Zoe quite a fright.
